The Cat Hill–Empire Cold War is the political and strategic rivalry between the Democratic People's Republic of Cat Hill and The Empire. The term comes from DPRCH discussion on 28 August 2026, when catgirlfeet compared the relationship to a cold war.[1]
No war had been declared or fought by the end of the available record. The conflict consisted of geographic separation, mutual suspicion, treaty discussion, fortification, weapons development, and disputes over the rules governing violence and property. Both sides stated at different times that they did not want open war.
Terminology
In general usage, a cold war is a condition of sustained hostility that stops short of direct large-scale fighting. The term is used here because the two blocs discussed military preparation and diplomacy without recording a deliberate battle. It does not imply that the server conflict is comparable in scale to the historical Cold War.
Background
The immediate background was the proposed exile of Jude on 27 August. Jude and allies developed a separate settlement that became known as the Empire. The DPRCH organized its council later that day. Public Minecraft chat confirms that Cat Hill and a separate Empire base were both recognized by 28 August.[2]
Belligerents and leadership
The DPRCH side consisted of the council state and its current members. MadShib held the interim chairmanship and catgirlfeet served as Interim Minister of Industrial Labor, while the council retained its stated collective authority.[3] The Empire side consisted of Jude, 14387, and Reaperissanta. No formal commander or imperial rank is established by the record, although Jude was central to the original territorial split.
Diplomatic efforts
On 28 August, SockMonkeyyy circulated a proposed non-aggression pact. It prohibited attack, raiding, griefing, intentional killing, territorial violations, and assistance to hostile action. The signature and date fields were blank. Later messages continued to describe the pact as something the parties had been trying to sign, so the document is treated as a draft rather than an agreement in force.
Military preparations
DPRCH council members discussed an airship, howitzers, mortars, bunker-busting ammunition, mines, radar, autocannons, missiles, bunkers, and a cannon factory. Most references were proposals rather than completed deployments. On 29 August, DPRCH members said their bunker and planned cannons were defensive. Empire-aligned players replied that nearby defenses and requests for gunpowder still appeared threatening.[4]
Many proposed systems were not yet operational. Cannon construction consumed several days of troubleshooting. A later mishap damaged part of the Empire base, but the chat attributes it to a technical error involving chunk loading rather than deliberate fire.
The server also developed high-impact magic described by players as “nuke” spells. Public Minecraft chat records that one spell removed a large area and was subsequently nerfed.[5] The term referred to a destructive game mechanic, not an actual nuclear weapon.
Incidents
Base visits and surveillance
Public Minecraft chat on 28 August records Empire members noticing catgirlfeet at their base. On 31 August, catgirlfeet stated that Jude's base was visible from the Cat Hill capitol. These contacts support the record of mutual observation but do not show a battle.[6]
Spell and cannon damage
The archive records damage around the Empire base and repeated spell-related crashes. The participants disputed causes and responsibility. No surviving message establishes a deliberate attack authorized by either nation.
Role of SockMonkeyyy
SockMonkeyyy alternated between mediator, council member, scout, and instigator. He served briefly as a DPRCH commissar, drafted the treaty, and urged both sides to keep the peace. His departure from Cat Hill on 29 August removed him from formal DPRCH affiliation without resolving the dispute. As of 31 August, he remained in communication with both nations. Members of both blocs alleged that he spread misinformation or fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) between them. The available record establishes the allegations, not their accuracy.[7]
Rules and status
The server's baseline rules prohibited unauthorized griefing, random killing without a story context, and unilateral exile. On 31 August, 14387 asked in public chat whether the Cat Hill capital could be struck with a spell. catgirlfeet responded that an unapproved strike would count as griefing and could result in a ban. Later that morning, she stated that she did not want a war at that time.[8]
As of 31 August, both groups remained separate, weapons development continued, and no deliberate battle had been recorded. The conflict was ongoing.
